Danbury Fire units were alerted by 911 around 6:40 a.m. Friday of a reported fire in a townhouse at 120 Triangle Street, said James Gagliardo, communication coordinator for the department.

While responding units reported a column of smoke visible from White Street. Deputy Chief Bernie Meehan was first on scene and confirmed a working fire with a heavy volume of smoke and fire showing from the rear of the condo, Gagliardo said.

The incident was quickly escalated to a three-alarm fire which brought in additional Danbury Fire units, Danbury Emergency Medical Service, Danbury Police, and Bethel Fire Department with a ladder truck.

Fire units worked for over an hour to contain the fire which was held to four units, stopping the fire from extending to four additional units, Gagliardo said.

The American Red Cross was requested for the displaced occupants and the remaining units were able to be reoccupied. Two occupants were evaluated by EMS on the scene for smoke inhalation but were released, he added.

One firefighter was transported to Danbury Hospital for an evaluation.

The Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to the scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.
